Nintendo has just announced Mario should no longer be considered a plumber

Nintendo came with a shocking reveal which will make the world never be the same again for most of us. Prepare to abandon your childhood beliefs, as the video game company declared Mario is not a plumber. Actually, this applies right now, as Nintendo decided Mario deserved a better job.

To our disappointment, Mario is not a plumber anymore

Nintendo might have decided plumbing wasn’t a cool job, so they changed their mind regarding Mario’s occupation. The character now sports a new profile, where it’s mentioned that it is no longer a plumber. This profile is available in Japanese, but a rough translation sounds something like this:

“All around sporty, whether it’s tennis or baseball, soccer or car racing, he [Mario] does everything cool. As a matter of fact, he also seems to have worked as a plumber a long time ago…”

This might come as a shock for many of us, who spent our childhood going on adventures with Mario, and believing he’s a true Italian plumber. However, Nintendo decided to change this iconic feature of the popular character, and claim plumbing was only a distant reality for him, a reality that many might not even remember.

Nintendo wants to promote Mario as a more complex character

In fact, we haven’t actually seen Mario doing any plumbing work. For the last 36 years, since we know him, we could see the lovable character battling gorillas or turtles, karting, playing tennis, or engaging in many other activities, but never plumbing.

Therefore, Nintendo decided to drop this old image of Mario, and promote him as a more complex character which engages in any kind of activities. Now, the new generations who are going to play with Mario will know him as a nice Italian man who can do mostly anything, and beat up all kinds of creatures.
