Jon Snow’s Parentage and Tyrion’s Reaction in Game of Thrones Finale

Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark in Game of Thrones

Since the fifth season of Game of Thrones, Jeremy Podeswa has been directing various episodes. He was also responsible with the Season 7 finale, one full of events, reunions and shocking revelations. He is now explaining some of the moments that took place during the episode.

Jon Snow’s real parentage

Podeswa began by saying that one of the scenes he is most proud of is the death of Littlefinger. It’s not like it was not expected to happen, but maybe not this way. The Stark sisters managed to trick the master trickster. Sansa passed the sentence and Arya did it. He also praised Aidan Gillen’s performance by saying that he did something that he had never seen before from Littlefinger. He was vulnerable and truly desperate for his life. He thought he was clever and never saw it coming. That was truly one of the most impressive moments that happened during Sunday’s episode.

As for the flashback scene with the wedding between Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, Podeswa said that they really wanted to make it romantic and like it was something out of a fairytale. Mainly because the reality was so different from what everyone knew about them. Rhaegar never kidnapped Lyanna and raped her. They were in love and got married. They even had a baby named Aegon Targaryen who we now know is actually Jon Snow.

Also, one of the most curious reactions was the one coming from Tyrion Lannister, when he realizes that Jon is visiting Daenerys’ room on that ship. From the director’s point of view, he is worried that things might degenerate because of this. Also, he is a bit worried about his position near her. She might begin trusting Jon more than him now, so that’s part of the reason for his reaction there. We still don’t know when the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones will premiere. Even if it will be late 2018 or early 2019, we still have a long way to go.
