Taking example from Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai asks for tolerance towards Muslims. The executive published an open letter in response to Donald Trump’s suggestion to ban Muslims’ access in the United States reminding people that America is a “land of immigrants”.
Ever since its founding days, America has been viewed as the land of opportunity for all immigrants. The new land was called many names, each and every one trying to grasp its essence, namely that of being a culturally diversified country, where, surprisingly, all inhabitants seem to feel at home.
The melting pot or the salad bowl are just two of the cultural models that have been analyzed over the course of years to explain how America functions. Lately, however, nobody believes in these values anymore, especially now that the terrorist threat is more menacing than ever.
The Presidential candidate Donald Trump has made all his beliefs public, no matter how racist or discriminatory they have been. His most recent demand is that Muslims’ access to the United States be banned.
Needless to say, this declaration has caused a lot of hype among all U.S. citizens, regardless of their nationality. CEOs of famous companies felt it was their duty to speak in the name of all the immigrants, who have helped built America and are now working in their companies.
Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg was the first to urge people not to let themselves biased by recent events as not all Muslims are terrorists. The new father made it clear once again that immigrants in general and Muslims in particular will always be welcome at Facebook.
On Friday, it was Google’s CEO, Sundai Pichai, who decided to speak on behalf of the prejudiced people. He began his open letter by saying that he is an immigrant, too. An immigrant, who has been lucky enough to get accepted at one of the U.S. universities and make it to the top through hard work.
By giving himself as an example of successful intelligent immigrant, who has contributed to the welfare of the American society, Pichai has proven that not all immigrants are bad. On the contrary, it was due to their diverse ideas that the country has become what it is today: one of the world’s superpowers.
By banning immigrants and Muslims’ access to the United States, the country would be deprived of great ideas and hard-working people. On the other hand, lots of skillful people will remain anonymous simply because they do not dispose of the same opportunities as they would in America.
Google is, in Pichai’s opinion, America at a smaller scale. His campus is full with cultural diversity and people coming from different parts of the world with new ideas, he added. It is this particular diversity that has worked to make Google the great company that it is today and the CEO has no intentions to change it.
